Frequent changes in production programs ofvehicle manufacturers cause fluctuating transportvolumes. This leads to inefficient transportationprocesses because the two planning domains are notwell coordinated. Consequently, transport capacities arepoorly utilized and extra transports have to bescheduled. We have identified that well-structured,efficient and transparent planning processes are a keyfactor for improving the integration between productionand transportation planning. Furthermore, informationshould be up-to-date and easily accessible. Twoapproaches for a better integration are proposed in thispaper: First, we present concepts for the continuousadjustment of logistics to changing productionprograms. Second, we describe concepts for adjustingproduction sequences to logistics. Both approaches usea central information platform named VirtualScheduling and Transportation Model (VSTM) as abasis. This model can be accessed by all relevantplanning domains and serves as a common informationbasis, thus improving data quality.
