Nowadays the interest for simulation applied to both manufacturing systems and plants is rapidly growing. In this application the classic approach shows its limitation due to the inability to manage objects whose position is the result of interaction with other environment bodies. The will to overcome these limitations without losing any of the benefits acquired with the introduction of simulation approach, leads to the introduction of rigid body dynamics into the simulation. The limitations of the classic approach, a description of the novel approach and the results obtained on a real CNC system are the bricks composing this paper.
