Project overview
- 5G-ERA is a H2020 IA project leaded by Robotnik Automation S.L.L. (Spain) that involves several European partners including CAL-TEK (the spin off company from the MSC-LES lab at University of Calabria).
- 5G-ERA addresses the new challenges on experimental facilities for the vertical developers and designers in the field of robotic applications through the following activities: (1) integrating operational processes of essential autonomous robotic capabilities into Open Source MANO (OSM); (2)realising an intent-based networking paradigm by aligning the end-to-end (E2E) resource optimisation with the autonomous operations; (3) cloud native Network Services on the experimental facilities; (4) extending the experimentation facilities into robotic domains thorough standard Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).

Project results
- Development of Middleware: The project introduced a middleware platform that enables cloud-native resource provisioning for autonomous robots, facilitating seamless integration and operation.
- Standardized APIs: By integrating the Robot Operating System (ROS) with Open Source MANO (OSM), 5G-ERA established standardized APIs, enhancing interoperability and simplifying the development process for robotic applications.
- Intent-Based Networking: The project implemented an intent-based networking paradigm aimed at optimizing Quality of Experience (QoE), thereby supporting enhanced robot autonomy in real-world applications.
- Use Case Demonstrations: 5G-ERA showcased its advancements through various use cases.
